Accidental Shooting During Target Practice Woman OK

An accidental shooting happened Sunday afternoon after a married couple was target shooting in the 500 block of Cowiche Road. Deputies from the Yakima County Sheriff''s office say the man had removed the magazine from the handgun they were shooting. He thought the weapon was unloaded but there was still one round in the chamber. The female was accidentally shot on the left leg as he handed it to her.

The couple met an ambulance as they left the area. They were transported from Summitview Ave and N. 72nd Ave to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.  Deputies say a medical exam at the hospital was consistent with statements given by both people involved.  The female is expected to fully recover.
No drugs or alcohol were involved, and no charges will be filed.
