SEATAC, Wash. (AP) — About 2,800 trees around Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will be removed over the next few years for passenger and pilot safety.

KOMO-TV reports about 178 of the trees are on private property.

The airport will compensate residents whose trees are cut down. They have all been notified.

Officials say between one and five trees will be planted for every tree that is removed.
