Today is certification day for the general election in Washington State. Yakima County Auditor Corky Holloway says her office sent out 106,000 ballots to county voters and expected anywhere from 60 to 70 percent turnout both in Yakima County and statewide because there was so much on the ballot. "A lot of issues and a lot of good hot races out there. But nation wide it was low. We ended up with 47.5 percent of the vote."
Holloway says 50, 500 ballots were returned to her office meaning thousands of ballots were ignored in the county. She says it's frustrating for election officials who are working hard to increase voter participation and who believe that busy ballots are whats needed to attract voters.
