The process to redesign Yakima's downtown took another step Thursday.

The design team for the proposed downtown plaza was in Yakima on Thursday listening to the public during a meeting at the Seasons Performance Hall.

Kathryn Gustafson, a Seattle designer hired by the city, says she is excited to help out her hometown by helping create a downtown plaza.

To have a downtown core that worked the way it worked when I was a kid where you could do your Christmas shopping, where you'd meet people, you'd go out to have a drink or dinner and that's what we'd like to see happen to Yakima again.

City officials say there are two potential sites for the plaza, which include the parking lot next to Millennium Plaza on Third Street or the parking lot on Second Street across from the Second Street Grill.

Some community members say they are excited for the revitalization of the downtown and think more businesses will bring more confidence to the area.
