Yakima Police are looking for a suspect who shot a clerk in the leg during an attempted robbery of the 7-Eleven store at 16th and Summitview avenues early Monday morning.

Police spokesman Mike Bastinelli says the robbery was reported at about 2:50 a.m. He says the robber entered the store, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash.

The clerk quickly locked himself in an office and thought the robber had left the store. But when the clerk came out of the office, the assailant -- who was still in the store -- fired two shots at the clerk. One of the gunshots struck the clerk in the leg.

The suspect fled from the store without taking any cash or items. The clerk was treated at a local hospital for the wound, which is not life-threatening.

Police are searching for the robber, who is described as a white male, 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-10, about 180 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, brown shoes and black gloves. He was wearing a white, yellow and black skull face mask.
