A portion of 48th Avenue between Tieton Drive and Summitview Avenue will be closed for about two weeks while crews continue a road improvement project.

Washington Department of Transportation officials hope to complete the project by July 31.

Meantime, 48th Avenue will be closed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day between Tieton and Summitview, but open to traffic overnight. The project includes widening and replacing the road surface along the section of 48th between Tieton and Chestnut Avenue, rebuilding the 48th and Chestnut intersection, and replacing and repairing the section of 48th between Chestnut and Summitview.

Detours around the project area will be available, but because of heavy traffic volumes in the area, drivers can expect delays in and around the project area until the work is completed.
