There is a joke going around facebook which basically says this is NOT the year to hang up mistletoe at the company Christmas party.  These days you can't turn on the radio or the TV without hearing about another sexual harassment scandal, many of which start in the workplace.

It’s about time these predators get busted but it has created an environment  where a lot of people don’t know where to step.  What’s the line, what’s flirty fun and what’s the next chapter of see-you-in-court or at least in H-R!

As you might imagine, all this is having an impact on office holiday parties. According to a survey by Chicago-based consulting company Challenger, Gray & Christmas, just 49 percent of companies plan to serve alcohol as their holiday events this year compared to 62% last year.

Employee relations experts say once alcohol is present at an off-site activity, people lower their guards behave in a less formal, more social manner.

The National Federation of Independent Businesses recommends businesses play it safe by limiting the number of free drinks employees can have and consider having a party monitor who can keep an eye out for inappropriate behavior. (Time)
