250 Gallons of Diesel Spills in Columbia River

WARRENTON, Ore. (AP) — Coast Guard officials say approximately 250 gallons of diesel has spilled in the Columbia River near the Oregon Coast.

The Coast Guard said in a news release that the spill Monday morning at Skipanon Marina in Warrenton left a 1-mile by 500 yard sheen in the water that was dissipating by Monday afternoon.

Officials say the diesel spilled from an 86-foot fishing vessel called Emerald Sea from Aberdeen, Washington during an internal fuel transfer at the marina. The boat's crew was working with harbormasters to clean the spill using absorbent pads.

Inspectors with the Coast Guard Incident Management Division in Astoria were monitoring the situation.

No hazards to navigation or affected wildlife have been reported.
