A 20-year-old mother is being held in the Yakima County Jail today after police say she assaulted her 3 month old baby at a Yakima home last Thursday. Police Lt. Mike Merryman says Mishaela Lockbeam-Wheeler was arrested on Friday after she told police the baby fell off a couch and was injured. But Merryman tells KIT News “the mother was arrested because what she told investigators happened did not match up with the injuries suffered by the child.” The baby suffered skull fractures and was taken to a Yakima hospital. The baby has been released and is now living in foster care. Lockbeam-Wheeler faces charges of assault in Yakima County Superior Court.
