On this date in 1969 man walked on the moon for the first time! (or did he?) We won’t entertain that debate here but we can enjoy some 1969 trivia and a little moon lore from Organic Style magazine.

--Traditionally, the first birthday cakes were for Artemis, the Greek moon goddess. Women baked a round cake, put a candle on it, and presented it to her on the full moon.
--Silver is traditionally associated with the moon, and it is representative of spiritual enlightenment.
--Women in ancient Gaul baked croissants to celebrate the rising moon. Crescent cake molds have also been found in many Greek archaeological sites.
--Unhappy with the uninhibited revelry at the moon's return, Saint Augustine angrily chided women for dancing "impudently and filthily all the day long."
--It's a Japanese custom that when you are troubled , you go into the moonlight, bow, meditate until you feel better, and bow again in thanks to the Lady in the Moon.
