More than 40 percent of U.S.-grown alfalfa hay is produced in the west, often in regions that experience cold spring weather. Western Farm Press reports that researchers have found that there is significant crop damage to alfalfa if lows of 29 and 30 degrees were recorded two and three days after application of Round-Up. Along with the cold, researcher suspects the age and height of the stand appears to be a factor in how the crop faired after glyphosate treatments. First-year stands did not seem to be affected as much as mature stands with the greatest injury in taller alfalfa and older fields than in fields that were recently established.
